Mushroom caps are not intended or manufactured to protect workers from impalement, they are used to protect individuals from cuts and scrapes.

Using mushroom caps on your conduit stub-ups, you are creating a willful OSHA violation, while increasing your chances for worker injuries and impalement. By using a mushroom cap, you are only identifying there is a hazard, thus any injury would be considered a “willful,” as they knew it was a hazard but refused to eliminate it.

This article from Delta Construction Corp explains the dangers of using Mushroom Caps to protect your conduit stub ups.

Protective measures should only be implemented whenever a hazardous condition cannot be eliminated. “Stub-EASE” ELIMINATES the hazard!
